I have always been amazed at the construction of these old pieces of luggage. Very popular in the forties and fifties. They never wore out. Our parents carried them off to college and our Grandparents purchased one set that lasted their whole lifetime. They were then handed down or found at thrift stores throughout. I like the energy they represent. Imagining the travels they have seen. To re-purpose into a piece of art acknowledges the time in history and pays respect to the individual whom travels are no longer.
