This poem was written after the Memorial Day Flood 1981 in Austin, Texas. I, along with many in Austin that night, fought for my life in the flood. I was washed out of my home by a 24 foot wall of water. Thirteen neighbors died that night. I survived and it was from this experience that I found the power of writing as a way to help me understand that life is so precious and so very uncertain.
